PROJECT EVIDENCE

Available to review.

Working preview

The deployed workspace connects stock discovery, watchlists, simulated trading, and portfolio review.

Market data source

Project documentation identifies phisix-api3 as the PSE data source and specifies a 30-second refresh interval.

Practice boundary

Orders use virtual buying power, and the interface discloses limits on the availability and freshness of market information.

01 / CONTEXT

Project context

TradePro gives people a place to research Philippine stocks and practice trading without using real capital. It combines PSE market views, ₱100,000 in starting virtual funds, simulated orders, and portfolio reporting in one application.

What the product provides

Philippine market data

Brings PSE prices, volume, percentage changes, charts, historical views, and top movers into the research workflow. TradePro requests updated data from phisix-api3 every 30 seconds.

Virtual trading

Gives each practice account ₱100,000 in virtual funds so users can place simulated buy and sell orders and review their transaction history without risking capital.

Portfolio management

Shows holdings, portfolio value, gain or loss, and interactive charts to make the effect of each simulated decision easier to review.

Watchlist

Keeps selected stocks visible in the dashboard so users can follow them alongside the broader market view.

02 / BUSINESS NEED

The problem

People learning to trade need to understand how research, orders, and price changes affect a portfolio before putting real money at risk. Separate market pages and practice tools make that decision process harder to follow.

Operating constraints

  • Every order needed to use virtual funds and a clearly stated starting balance.
  • Research, watchlists, orders, and portfolio calculations needed to form one coherent workflow.
  • External PSE quotes could be delayed or unavailable, requiring clear communication about data freshness.
  • The workspace needed to remain usable on different screen sizes.
03 / DELIVERY

Approach and solution

Delivery approach

I brought stock discovery, watchlists, simulated orders, transaction history, and portfolio review into one workspace. A fixed starting balance gives each user a consistent practice scenario, while market and portfolio views show the consequences of their choices.

Technical solution

I built the interface with Next.js 16, React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, and shadcn/ui. Next.js route handlers, Firebase Admin, Firebase Authentication, and Firestore support account and application workflows. SWR requests PSE data from phisix-api3 every 30 seconds, and Recharts displays market and portfolio information.

My contribution

I independently designed and implemented stock discovery, the PSE data integration, virtual buy and sell orders, watchlists, transaction history, portfolio calculations, and interactive charts.

Team ownership

TradePro is an independent project. Its deployed interface demonstrates the account, discovery, simulated trading, and portfolio workflows I developed.

04 / THINKING

Key decisions

01

Use ₱100,000 in virtual buying power

A fixed starting balance makes practice scenarios comparable and removes financial exposure from the learning process.

02

Show gain-or-loss feedback with the portfolio

Portfolio feedback connects an order to its effect on holdings and gain or loss, making the tradeoff visible to the user.

03

Refresh PSE quotes every 30 seconds

Periodic requests keep the research view current enough for practice while preserving a clear boundary around delayed or unavailable external data.

Tools & technology

  • Next.js 16
  • React
  • TypeScript
  • SWR
  • Tailwind CSS
  • shadcn/ui
  • Next.js Route Handlers
  • Firebase Admin
  • Firebase Authentication
  • Cloud Firestore
  • Recharts
  • phisix-api3 PSE API
05 / RESULT & NEXT STEP

Current result

The deployed application brings market research, virtual orders, watchlists, transaction history, and portfolio feedback into one practice workflow. It identifies the workspace as a demo and discloses that quotes may be delayed, cached, simulated, or unavailable.

Next improvement

Add a visible quote freshness indicator, validate simulated orders and portfolio calculations against sample transactions, and publish an implementation walkthrough.

Lessons for future work

  • A practice trading workflow depends on clear calculations, transaction history, and feedback that links actions to portfolio changes.
  • Market data needs an explicit freshness state so users can evaluate quotes in the right context.
ADDITIONAL NOTE

TradePro addresses the need for a connected, low-risk trading practice workflow. I developed the product independently; phisix-api3 supplies PSE data, while orders and balances remain virtual.
